Seven New Cute Crabs

Hana always gets sad on rainy days.

Ever since I fell in love with crabs, I wanted Ecuadorian crabs. I wanted these crabs because they are more active during the day and they have very cute eyes. Ecuadorian crabs are also known as the “Pacific Crab”, “Evil E’s” or just Es. They are called “Evil Es” because at night they like to tear apart the tank to make it more their style. They don’t do this to be mean, they do it to have fun.

I have been looking for Es for about a month. The closest ones I found were sold in Berkley, CA. Then I found another crabber from Fresno, CA who was looking for somebody to adopt her Es because she was moving across the country. I decided to adopt her crabs last week.

They arrived by UPS around 9 in the morning in a small tub of wet moss. When I saw them I was very happy that all of them survived. She said they were going to be small but one was so much smaller than I thought and one was so much bigger than I thought. It was very exciting to see them.

The smallest one that arrived turned out to be a different species, called a Ruggie, which are even more rare than the Es. It was the smallest crab I’ve ever seen, called a micro. It was the size of a pistachio nut and looked more blue than all the others.

Here is my micro Ruggie “Rocky” next to my Biggest E “Ginger”

When I moved the new crabs into Crab Heaven, Fireball went up to one of our new crabs, Sora, and started raffling up a fight. After a day, they all started calming down. Now Fireball is sleeping with them.

Now that I have Es and a micro Ruggie, I think my collection is done. I am very happy about owning 11 crabs!

Check out my new section in the right column called Brother Talk where my 7 yr. old brother shares his opinion on my crabs.

Here are my crabulous photos:

Here is Sora playing hide-n-seek.

Toodles is checking the weather forecast for the day.

Here is Monkey walking on the ceiling.

Here is Ginger hanging out in the salt water jacuzzi.

Emily hangs out with Monkey.

So who is your favorite Ecuadorian Crab?

  1. Mr. Crabs,
I would have to say Ginger is my favorite because I like her sense of style by the shell she picked. Just beautiful. This is so great that you have found such a fun hobby with your family.

  2. I like Rocky! Small but spunky and proud! I also like the color of his shell. Way to go on the new crabs and great post by the way. Your brothers crab Sora is pretty cool too. I like the name! Say hi to your brother for me and if you can stand it....give him a hug and a kiss for me. Same goes for you! x0

  3. Well, having met your micro, Rocky, I would say he is my favorite for now. He is so cute, folks! Hana does look sad during her rainy day. She looks like she is in an egg shell instead of a crab shell. Maybe she is, huh? Do your crabs react to you when you come close to their habitat, or do they just ignore you? Keep on crabbing!! 10. Thanks! I get my food at the Hermit Addiction Online Store, it's very cheap! I also use a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables from our kitchen.

As for toys, I got the cholla wood and fish net from Michael's Craft store and the jacuzzi water dishes from Petsmart. All of our cool shells are from the Hermit Crab Patch online, as well as the coconut houses. The drift wood and vine came from PetCo. The suction cup plastic shower caddy levels and river rocks under the water dishes came from Walmart.
